The stainless steel submarine made its debut at Basel World in 1954. Due to the high water resistance, the luminescent dial and the 60-minute bezel, it makes sense to present the company’s diving watches entirely made of steel. However, an all-gold Rolex watch was also a coveted status symbol, and in the 1960s Rolex released a variant made of yellow gold. Ref. The 16618 was one of the first submarines to be made entirely of gold replica watch. It combined a satin and polished finish of 18k yellow gold with a blue dial and bezel. The used Rolex 16618 is a relatively new example from the late 1990s. It also features a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, a unidirectional time-lapse bezel, and depths of up to 1,000 feet.
